TOOLS OF THE TRADE ACTIVE LEARNING MODULEThe North West Melbourne Division of General Practice was funded by the Department of Health and Ageing to develop an Active Learning Module (ALM) on residential aged care, based on the General Practitioner and Residential Aged Care Kit. The GP and Residential Aged Care Kit (Kit) is a useful resource for GPs and aged care homes. The Kit provides information, tools, strategies and resources for integrating the medical care of residents, particularly between GPs and aged care home staff. An electronic copy of the Kit is provided on our website and available directly at URL: http://nwmdgp.org.au/pages/after_hours/ The Kit has been a valuable resource for Divisions of General Practice in the implementation of the Aged Care GP Panels Initiative. To aid the implementation of the Kit, the Tools of the Trade Active Learning Module was developed for Division of General Practice staff (and other relevant stakeholders) to conduct with GPs and aged care home staff. The Tools of the Trade Active Learning Module is provided here for Division of General Practice staff and others to use with GPs and aged care home staff, with the purpose to promote coordination of care for residents of aged care homes. Active Learning Module
Active Learning Modules are an educational activity within the RACGP 2005-2007 Quality Assurance and Continuing Professional Development program. ALMs provide a learning environment that allows GPs to look at their current practice, identify quality improvement objectives, increase their skills and implement new learnings in patient management. While all ALMs may be different in both content and mode of delivery, they have some things in common. They all: - Demand a minimum of six hours of GPs time
- Have only one-third of the activity as didactic education
- Include a predisposing activity to start GPs thinking about the issues to be covered in the ALM and a post-activity evaluation
- Earn 30 Category One QA&CPD points
- Allow a maximum of 25 participants only
